Ever wonder what you’re meant to do in life? Robert Greene, author of Mastery, suggests that each of us has a “Life’s Task”—a unique path to master.
In my latest essay, I look into how Greene’s approach to reading can help you uncover your true calling and achieve new skill levels in any field.
I share Greene’s insights on finding your passion, why a mentor is essential, and how carefully chosen books can serve as your best guides on the journey to mastery. I even reveal the exact books I’m using to hone my writing skills—no YouTube shortcuts here!
Until next time, read slowly - take notes - apply the ideas.

Mastery by Robert Greene
Mastery by Robert Greene is a must-read for anyone serious about getting really good at something. Greene lays out the journey from beginner to master in three main stages: The Apprenticeship Phase, The Creative-Active Phase, and the Mastery Phase. Each stage has a clear purpose, helping you build skills step by step until you're truly exceptional.
Personally, I love this book because it’s given me direction—helping me find what I’m passionate about, figure out what tools I need, and motivating me to work. It’s also packed with fascinating stories about how legends like Leonardo da Vinci reached greatness.
If you're looking to find your life’s purpose and become the best at it, this book is definitely worth a read.
I sit down with Dr. Martin Jacobsen to discuss the downsides of aiming to read a book a week. Dr. Jacobsen shares his experience of getting caught up in the numbers and how it affected the quality of his reading. We explore why slowing down can actually lead to more rewarding reading sessions and how to focus on enjoying the journey, not just the goal.
Love The Deep Read Coffee! It's bold and flavorful, but not overpowering. Have used it for pour over & espresso shots and is perfect! My new favorite coffee!
It is rare that you receive something that is better than you expected. The included tools are well thought out. I love it. I can see why Eddy said he did not go anywhere without it. Thank you.
